A city survey received by some Northfield residents cited the most needed amenity were bathrooms. It’s reasonable to upgrade the bathrooms at Odd Fellows Park however the increased price has robbed the cities previous commitment to improved Pickle Ball courts near Riverside Park.
The Pickle Ball courts are used at least twice a day and then some through out the season and is the only available court during the school year as the middle school courts are scheduled. The current Riverside Park courts are in poor condition. I oppose taking away funds from the planned Pickle Ball court upgrade.
I can support upgrades to the Oddfellows Park bathrooms but only if it does not come at the expense of the pickle ball court upgrade.
Throughout the past year the pickle ball courts have been used daily, including winter months. The players often cleared the courts of snow themselves! It engenders a high degree of participation and recreation for multiple age groups and is important to Northfield’s culture as a place of age friendly recreation.
The current condition of the courts is quite poor. Many of our players are retired and elder. It is essential that these courts be upgraded.
