I write to you all as a resident interested in seeing how the city is making decisions about development processes requiring permitting and how it is weighing the vision and considerations of best practices expressed in guiding policy documents. To date, I have appreciated the council's deliberations regarding the parking situation for the Ole Avenue project. What concerns me is that the council and staff have been side-tracked by counting rather than asking the higher level questions that motivated community members to speak out. Rather than asking what are the ways this development can assist the students and west side residents effectively move about the city without reliance on fossil drive vehicles and large parking areas, you are mired questions about what might be new/repurposed parking. I encourage the council to avoid the numbers and convenience arguments and ask how this project provides opportunity to see a new vision for Northfield. Will your Climate Action Plan be honored?
