    I agree with Johnathan's comments. Both residents and business owners are struggling in these times of the pandemic. Attracting more business would increase the tax base. By increasing taxes and adding fees, prospective businesses and residents are discouraged from being a part of our community. Perhaps the spending could go on "furlough" until the residents and businesses have recovered from the pandemic. The "franchise fee" feels like smoke and mirrors - it still is a way for the city to raise taxes.

    This is a difficult time for many businesses in Northfield. The pandemic has particularly affected businesses who rely on public contact. The idea of placing a franchise fee on businesses who are struggling is simply the wrong thing to do at this time. The long term solution to the tax base problem is to attract more business. This is the wrong way to go.
