As a member of the Northfield Rotary Club’s Climate Action Team, Citizen’s Climate Lobby and Minnesota 350, I am very concerned about the health of our planet. One of the sources of CO2 that is readily within our control is automobile exhaust. Automobile manufacturers are aware of the increasing demand for electric vehicles and have dramatically increased their production.
The Northfield Rotary Club has cosponsored with the City of Northfield, the first municipal EV charging station which is being used by the public. One of the limiters of increased EV ownership is the availability of charging stations. Adding a second station will address that issue and have the benefit of attracting more EV owners, an increasingly large percent of the population to Northfield as tourists and shoppers.
The Rotarians have committed to fund half the projected cost of a second station and hope to partner with the City of Northfield for that project.

I support the addition of an addtional EV station in Northfield. The transportation sector remains the largest contributor to carbon emissions and having more places to for EV owners to charge will help be a catalyst for the sale of electric vehicles thus contributing to a cleaner environment. In addition to being aligned with the City of Northfield's climate initiatives, this is also a great economic opportunity for downtown Northfield. There is a growing market of EV owners who will be looking for EV friendly destinations to shop and spend time. I am an EV owner and when my wife and are looking for a day or weekend trip, our destination is often influenced by where charging stations are located.
