Having the city take these actionable steps now to purchase solar energy to reduce greenhouse gas begins the process and sets a hugely positive tone for future climate action planning. Thank you city of Northfield. I support your efforts!

I also support that the first solar garden subscription for a portion of Northfield’s usage be from Minnesota Community Solar. Minnesota Community Solar has an established relationship in Northfield. Minnesota Community Solar is a Minnesota company that seeks to do good work beyond the profit. Minnesota Community Solar while giving a very competitive rate to the city of Northfield is also a partner with Northfield Area Community Solar and will be putting money back into community hands. In this case, that money will be used to provide solar subscriptions for the Community Action Center housing. That’s community helping community. What a generous action.

Again, I support and sincerely applaud your efforts to purchase solar energy!

I strongly support the City of Northfield subscribing to Minnesota Community Solar. It is imperative that we all work together to reduce carbon emissions and move toward 100% renewable energy. The future of our planet and well-being of our community depend on it. -- Dr. Naomi Bartley, Climate Reality Leader

With the federal government withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, cities and states need to step forward to find clean energy solutions. The future of our children and grandchildren is at stake. I strongly endorse adopting the Community Solar Subscription Agreement. --The Rev. Michael Mandsager

I am writing to express my strong support for the City of Northfield subscribing to Minnesota Community Solar. I feel it is important for institutions in the community to lead the way in supporting solar energy. I'm a member of First UCC Church where a few years ago we decided to do just that and put solar panels on the church. Since that time many individuals and business have followed this example. As a homeowner, I have made the decision to sign up for a community solar garden as well.

I feel that supporting solar energy is an important step individuals, businesses and institutions can take to help reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions. If the City were to sign up for community solar it would set a great example for others to follow. In addition to reducing the impact on the environment this makes good financial sense and will save the City money on its utility bills.

I urge you to support this resolution when it comes before council for a vote.
