I am a freshman at Carleton College. I am passionate about historic architecture, and though I am new to Northfield, I have appreciated its wonderful historic downtown from the beginning of my time here.
Please urge the Archer House developers to stick with the original square window design rather than their new proposal for arched windows. I find the arched windows to be too old-fashioned on a building that should rightfully look modern. In addition, they resemble the appearance of the Nutting Block far too closely, detracting from the Nutting Block's prominence as the only historic building downtown with such heavy arches.
In addition, I dislike the option to replace the metal scrim element above the main entry with a glass facade. The glass option is incredibly generic. The metal scrim is a distinctive, quirky element that sets the new Archer design apart from the architectural monotony that characterizes most modern developments.
    Otherwise, I support the proposal.
