I support the change to the defacing sidewalks or public structures ordinance to allow for chalk art to be done without penalty. The Say Their Names project combined beautiful artwork with a meaningful message for our entire community. Since the chalk easily washes away and causes no harm, I would like groups like this one to continue to use community art to draw awareness to current issues. Please change the 1909 ordinance to include: "For the purposes of this section, the use of substances intended to mark concrete for less than that twenty-four (24) hours that can be completely and easily removed from sidewalks with non-pressurized water including, but not limited to sidewalk chalk to temporarily letter, color, decorate, or mark any sidewalk shall not be considered to deface such sidewalk."
