I am a parent of two kindergarten students at Greenvale Elementary. It doesn't take a traffic study to see what a dangerous situation that our children face everyday. According to Officer Tussing who attended our neighborhood National Night Out a citizen must step into the cross walk before a vehicle is required by law to stop. Is that what we should tell our children to do? Cars, trucks, buses, it doesn't seem to matter fail to stop at the cross walks. The safety situation in front of the school is reckless at best. I request that the city convene a task force of parents, school district officials, and the city to determine exactly what is needed and that the city reconsider approving the addition of a 100 unit apartment complex across the street. The current safety concerns are public in nature but the future traffic concerns should be the burden of the developers and not the tax payers or our children.

    Thank you,
    Derek Haars

I urge you to reconsider, slow down on this development and do it properly. This is a terrible idea and unsafe for the children who attend the schools nearby.

    Please read the attached letter.
    Sincerely,

The high-density apartment complex proposed for Paulson woods will result in congestion, traffic noise, and bright lights for the surrounding neighborhood. Most critically, it will endanger the children who cross Lincoln Parkway to go to school. It doesn’t make sense to plop a huge apartment complex down into the middle of a single family residential neighborhood. And it really is not fair to do so. This should have been considered, of course, when the city rezoned the Paulson woods, but I am not aware that a single neighbor was notified of the proposed rezoning or was even made aware of the change. Most unfair of all is that the developers will now be asking us to subsidize their project with tax incentives. In effect, if you vote in favor of this development and approve their request for these incentives, you will be requiring us to pay them an enormous amount of money to spoil our neighborhood. Your constituents deserve better than this. Please vote “no”!
